The CRHNet Emerging Professionals (EP) Committee is very excited to bring you the first ever CRHNet EP Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Scavenger Hunt and it starts today!

In celebration and support of DRR Day on October 13, 2023 the EP Committee is challenging you to actively consider threats and consequences across Canada from an all hazards perspective. The CRHNet EP Committee DRR Scavenger Hunt is a hybrid real life/online asynchronous game in which players compete as individuals or in teams to complete tasks both virtually and in the real world.

So what is DRR? Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is the concept and practice of reducing disaster risks through systematic efforts to analyze and reduce the causal factors of disasters. DRR can be applied to “…economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries“ (UNDRR, 2023). For example, traffic bollards, insurance plans, or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). These are all examples of DRR strategies. If you’re still feeling confused, come to our upcoming event: “What is DRR? An Explorative Talk” presented by Dr. Matthew Godsoe on October 19th https://crhnet.ca/events-2/#!event-list.

Participants may register to participate in the DRR Scavenger Hunt as individuals or in teams. Registration and participation can take place anytime throughout the two week play period of October 13th – 27th. Individuals and teams must register via email (ep@crhnet.ca) or on the CRHNet website. Participants will have 2 weeks (Oct. 13-27) to collect as many scavenger hunt items as possible. Items must be collected from the participants’ virtual and real-life environment, including workplaces, neighborhoods, homes, movies, TV, news articles, and books. Once found, items may be submitted to CRHNet for consideration (as a photo and/or written text) via email (ep@crhnet.ca), discord, or social media Once the submission timeframe has closed, whoever has the greatest number of legitimate hunt items wins! The winning individual or team will be highlighted on the CRHNet website through a blog post and on social media, and bragging rights for life! Additional special prizes to be released!
