CRHNet Objectives
The primary objectives of the CRHNet are to:
- Initiate the development of a Canadian inter-disciplinary and cross-sectoral network of researchers, academics and practitioners to enhance understanding of emergency management in all dimensions and help build Canadian capacity to deal effectively with threats and consequences from all hazards.
- Create a Canadian annual forum for dialogue focusing on disaster risk reduction and facilitate policy formulation and adoption of best practices in Canada.
- Provide a Canadian venue to learn from the experiences of other countries by inviting internationally reputed scholars, practitioners, and participants to the Symposium and to share Canadian experience and efforts in disaster reduction.

Yesterday the Emerging Professionals Committee launched their 2023/24 survey! This survey is aimed at understanding the current employment landscape for entry level positions, the barriers that exist to entering the field, and what opportunities/resources could support the transition into the DEM workforce. The survey is open to both current professionals and emerging/job seekers in DEM and DRR.

The Emerging Professionals (EP) Committee is very excited to announce an upcoming Workshop, Communicating with the Deaf in Emergency Situations! This 9-hour (3 session) course is being offered in partnership with Humber College Continuous Professional Learning.
Wednesdays, June 5, 12, and 19
6:30 pm to 9:30 pm ET
Classes take place via Zoom
This 9-hour (3 evenings) Workshop will introduce participants to strategies and techniques for effective communication with the Deaf in emergency situations. Participants will learn the ASL alphabet, basic sign language and communication strategies to be able to calm, reassure, assess and obtain contact and other necessary information. You will also learn about Deaf Culture in order to have a better understanding of how to communicate with individuals in the Deaf community.
