CRHNet and ICS Canada sign MOU to create a more disaster-resilient future

The Canadian Risk and Hazards Network (CRHNet) and Incident Command System (ICS) Canada are pleased to announce the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), effective May 16, 2025.

This MOU ensures that introductory ICS training courses are more accessible for emergency management personnel across Canada, ultimately contributing to the ongoing advancement of disaster and emergency management in Canada.

“By improving accessibility to entry level ICS Canada training opportunities, this agreement will enhance operability amongst ICS Canada users across the country and internationally. When everyone uses common training and command structures, emergency personnel are able to focus on what they do best, emergency response.”
– Vincent Demers, Chair of ICS Canada

Through this MOU, CRHNet and ICS Canada are agreeing to support one another in the spirit of collaboration, cooperation, and shared learning. Within this agreement:

  • CRHNet members and ICS Canada Members can anticipate reciprocal discounted attendance to partner events and joint learning opportunities.
  • ICS Canada Members are invited to join CRHNet at a discounted rate.
  • CRHNet members are invited to enroll in I-ICS 100 and I-ICS 200 at a discounted rate.

“This partnership is another example of CRHNet’ s commitment to improving access to related training and frameworks that can help to support our members, as we all work together towards creating a safer, more disaster-resilient, and more prepared Canada.”
– Jodi Manz-Henezi, President of CRHNet.

Information on how to access these benefits will be shared directly with Members of CRHNet and ICS Canada.

About Incident Command System (ICS) Canada:

ICS Canada is a program of CIFFC. It is a network of organizations working cooperatively to maintain a standard Incident Command System that enhances incident management response through improved interoperability. The Incident Command System is a standard on site command and control system used to manage emergency incidents and planned events.

The ICS Canada Vision is to work towards the day when the ICS Canada system is accepted as the command, control, and coordination response structure across Canada for managing tactical operations. The Mission is to enhance interoperability amongst ICS users in Canada, by providing an Operational Description, Incident Command System training curricula, and associated standards.

About The Canadian Risk and Hazards Network (CRHNet):

The Canadian Risk and Hazards Network (CRHNet) is a not-for-profit organization established in 2003 to promote and strengthen disaster risk reduction and emergency management in Canada. CRHNet creates an environment for hazards research, education and emergency management practitioner communities to effectively share knowledge and innovative approaches that reduce disaster vulnerability. CRHNet represents emergency managers (and affiliated roles) across Canada.

CRHNet’s theme of ‘Reducing Risk through Partnerships’ calls attention to the need for partnerships to enhance the understanding of, and provide tools for, the development of comprehensive programs to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from all types of disasters – natural, technological or human-induced.
